Where most winegrowers used to use all the grapes for their one cuvée, they now also have a basic cuvée and a luxury cuvée on top of that. Jean Foillard couldn't resist either and made a the best barrels of the best parts of the Côte du Py are cuvée 3.14 , from 80 year old gamay vines. A good choice if you ask us.

And then came the 2015 vintage, an even better year than previous super years. Foillard's 'best' wine, the 3.14 , surpassed itself. This was better than the best. And you don't have to be a marketing expert to figure out what our Jean was doing then did: 'Athanor' was born.
Athanor is the name of the furnace in which, medieval alchemists believed, you could make gold from an ordinary metal. Extraordinary, just like this wine.

This Morgon has so much power and intensity that it leans towards a noble example of a Northern Rhône wine in terms of aroma and taste. Yet, this is Beaujolais!
