Description

Recultivated vineyards of a previously fallow (Friche) piece of land. A piece of land that Camille and Mathias did not have much confidence in at first sight but now seems to triumph. The piece of land is planted with dozens of grape varieties and after a lot of pruning, cutting and love it literally bears fruit. Friche XX is a very light red blend of Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Dark red and white mixed here creates beautiful, clear juice of full and round fruit and a good pepper. Drink chilled and with a soft perlant, suitable from early morning to late evening.

In the heart of Périgord (Dordogne), right next to Bergerac, we find Château Lestignac. The winery has been run by the young Camille and Mathias Marquet since 2008. The couple took over the château from Mathias' grandparents, after which they immediately introduced biodynamics. On their 7.5 hectares of private land, they now cultivate the land completely biodynamically and work with local grapes as much as possible. The approximately 40-year-old vineyards are planted on different soils: a clay-limestone plateau and various limestone slopes with flint.

When disaster struck in 2017 and the entire harvest of Chateau Lestignac was lost to frost, Camille and Mathias decided to look for winegrowers who farmed organically/biodynamically, but did not make wine themselves. They discovered a world of cool winegrowers who did not have access to a cellar to make or store wine. With these farmers and their grapes, they started the company Hors les Murs ('Outside the Walls') in 2018, where they work as marquet négociants . The couple wants the process to be clear and transparent. For example, the name 'Lestignac' no longer appears on the bottle and it is honestly stated where and from whom all the grapes come.
