Description

Dark and 'deep' Beaujolais. Firm wine with fine tannins. Intense and energetic. Possibility of laying down.

Jean Claude Lapalu has been making his own wine since 1995. Until then, he delivered the grapes from his conventionally farmed vineyards to the cooperative, just like his father and grandfather. In six years, he converted to biodynamic viticulture. Jean Claude Lapalu's vineyards are located around the southernmost cru of Beaujolais: Brouilly.

  • Country / Region: France / Beaujolais
  • Grape variety(ies): 100% Gamay
  • In the vineyard: All of Jean Claude Lapalu's Brouilly vineyards are south-east facing, except for the 'La Croix des Rameaux' vineyard, which has a south-west exposure. Sand and granite subsoil. Plot with a very steep slope. No chemical pesticides are used. Old vines (70+ years old). Manual picking. This is the plot that is picked last by Jean Claude Lapalu.
  • In the cellar: Fermentation with vineyard-specific yeasts. Vinification using the carbonic maceration technique with destemmed bunches. Maceration of approximately 20 days. The wine matures for 9 to 10 months on the fine 'lie' in used 'tonneaux'. There is no clarification or filtering. A small amount of sulphite is added when bottling.
  • Quality mark: Biodynamic and natural wine
