Description

Riesling ram full of character and a perfect reflection of its terroir. Complex aromas and citrus tones in the nose, tight mineral with a salty undertone and with the soft creaminess of cashews . Full of healthy tension, this is really a Riesling for the enthusiast and for those who possibly also have the patience to let this grand cru lie for a while, perhaps even 15 years, without getting the well-known, sometimes somewhat overwhelming 'petrol' content.

Goes great with shellfish, mature goat cheeses and, of course, perfectly executed sauerkraut.

Domaine Mittnacht is located in the village of Hunawihr near Ribeauvillé. Part of the vineyards of the young dynamic cousins Christophe and Marc Mittnacht fall under the Lieu-Dit's, Cru's and Grand Cru's such as Muehlforst, Rosacker and Osterberg. With full dedication the domaine started in 1998 to banish weed killers, artificial fertilizers and chemical insecticides, and to work completely bio-dynamic.

They fertilize with their own compost, use various natural resources and give the vineyard the strength to naturally defend itself against diseases and maintain the characteristics of the soil.

Since the 2018 vintage, the Mittnacht cousins have split up and Christophe Mittnacht has continued under his own name. He wanted to go a bit more in the (clean) vin nature direction and Marc did not want that. They are on good terms, because they have neatly divided the 22 hectares and help each other where necessary.

Christophe Mittnacht is married to Yuka, a Japanese star chef/sushi chef from Tokyo. Now in Alsace she runs a gîte where she also gives sushi workshops and Christophe of course takes care of the wines.
