No no, not the bone dry, highly citrusy white wine we know, but Muscadet sur-lies, but very different. Same Same but different, let's say. With 26 months of maturation sur-lies, not the Muscadet to pair with the well-known combination with oysters, but with calf sweetbreads, strongly spiced cuisine or with fried scallops. Nice to surprise someone, or yourself. Beautifully round, complex, full of dried yellow fruit and smoky tones with a salty edge. White flowers and soft aromatic herbs bind the wine into a whole. le Fief du Breil, a very beautiful representation of terroir and especially of the talent and ability of Jo.
In the north-western part of the Loire, near Nantes, lies the appellation Muscadet S&M, not to be confused with the sweet Muscat wines. The official name of the grape is Melon de Bourgogne, which has nothing to do with Burgundy.
The cheerful Jo (very recognizable because of his gigantic moustache) is a pioneer in biodynamics in the Loire. He has been working organically since 1999 and received the ECOCERT bio certificate in 2002. His wines are crystal clear and some cuvées can also age well.
