Description
Beautifully executed and perfectly balanced with enormous finesse. The Melon de Bourgogne grapes come from Les Houx, the oldest parcel of Domaine de la Louvertrie with vines around 40 years old and a soil rich in quartz and iron. A soft but persistent bitterness and fine notes of well-ripened citrus fruits give le Houx the complexity of a more mature wine, a more mature Muscadet to be precise. We could almost call it fleshy. The juice has been on the lees for twice as long as the more classic La Louvetrie , which brings with it a beautiful creaminess. We of course drink Muscadet with shellfish, Les Houx can handle much more substantial.
In the north-western part of the Loire, near Nantes, lies the appellation Muscadet S&M, not to be confused with the sweet Muscaat wines. The official name of the grape is Melon de Bourgogne, which has nothing to do with Burgundy.
The cheerful Jo (very recognizable because of his gigantic moustache) is a pioneer in biodynamics in the Loire. He has been working organically since 1999 and received the ECOCERT bio certificate in 2002. His wines are crystal clear and some cuvées can also age well.
