Description

Energetic Beaujolais Villages. This wine alternates fresh, playful, uplifting expressions of red fruit and flowers with a powerful, serious undertone. Suppleness and power. Clear example of the style of Jean Claude Lapalu.

Jean Claude Lapalu has been making his own wine since 1995. Until then, he delivered the grapes from his conventionally farmed vineyards to the cooperative, just like his father and grandfather. In six years, he converted to biodynamic viticulture. Jean Claude Lapalu's vineyards are located around the southernmost cru of Beaujolais: Brouilly.

  • Country / Region: France / Beaujolais
  • Grape variety(ies): 100% Gamay
  • In the vineyard: Fruit from various vineyards, all situated in the middle of the slope and with a sandy and granite soil. No chemical pesticides are used. Old vines (between 50 and 80 years old) in a high planting density (11,000 vines per hectare). Manual picking.
  • In the cellar: The grapes are cooled for 24 hours before fermentation starts. Fermentation with vineyard-specific yeasts. Vinification according to the carbonic maceration technique. Maceration of 10 to 20 days, depending on the vintage. The wine matures for six to seven months on the fine 'lees' in concrete tanks. There is no clarification or filtering. A small amount of sulphite is added when bottling.
  • Quality mark: Biodynamic and natural wine
