Description
Wine from Barolo is always made from the Nebbiolo grape. Even though this grape is light in color, it usually has high tannin and acidity, which makes it possible to make a very robust red wine. Diego's style is precisely trying to put elegance in the bottle instead of throwing (too) much new wood aging at it. The Barolo is a blend of three different vineyards within Monforte d'Alba. West, south-west and south-east location, 320-380 m altitude. 10, 20 and 32 year old vines. Clay, sand and calcareous marl as subsoil.
The winery, which was founded by Diego Conterno in Monforte d'Alba between 2000 and 2003, is actually much older. Diego had already been active for 20 years with his cousins Claudio Claudio Conterno and Guido Fantino. Today he is helped by his son Stefano. The vineyards grow Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nascetta. Since 2006, the vineyards have been cultivated organically and partly biodynamically. Only since 2017 have all wines been certified organic and since the 2019 vintage also DEMETER (biodynamic).
