Description

The big hit of the past few years. And we were all shocked when it was out of action recently. Fortunately, it is back again.

In the past, Pignoletto was not only the name of the grape but also of the area where it was grown, on the hills around Bologna (Emilia-Romagna). To avoid confusion, it was decided in 2015 to give the grape a new name; Grechetto Gentile. We secretly prefer to call it Pignoletto. This one from Corte d'Aibo is very pronounced and spicy with fresh acids and flavors of tropical fruit. A fine, soft mousse with light bitters and yet round in the aftertaste.

Pignoletto is a bit tighter and fresher than Prosecco (made from the Glera grape). It is the alternative to Prosecco. With the ever-increasing price of Prosecco, it is a very good alternative with a much better price-quality ratio. Perfect in combination with tortellini and ideal with mortadella, the queen of Bologna aperitifs.

Country / Region: Italy / Emilia-Romagna (Bologna)
Grape variety(s): 100% Grechetto Gentile (Pignoletto)
In the vineyard: The vineyards are located 200 meters above sea level. Grapevines are facing west. The altitude gives enough acidity/freshness to the wine. Clay and loam subsoil.

Quality mark: ICEA-Vino Bilogico

In 1989 Antonio Capelli and Mario Pirondini took over the 35 hectare estate. Situated on the hills of Monteveglio, near Bologna, they switched completely to organic farming. Working more slowly and environmentally consciously, with respect for the land, nature and culture, as in the earlier years. A fact that colleagues, friends and family thought they were completely crazy for. Antonio and Mario with their 'crazy' project. Nevertheless, that 'crazy project' formed the birth of Corte d'Aibo. Producing products that tell the story of the area, terroir and passion

The greater part of the production is dedicated to the native vines, the Grechetto Gentile, from which the Pignoletto DOC and the Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto DOCG are born, undoubtedly the most interesting white wines of Bologna. Fresh and tasty and sparkling, with great structure and charm.
